Learning Links
The Cumbria Association of Councils of Voluntary Service hosts
a countywide training function with the objective of promoting and
co-ordinating training within the Voluntary and Community Sector.
The Association commissioned Porter Brown Solutions to conduct a
review of the Training Unit and its associated membership network,
Cumbria Learning Links.
By working with the training team, the directors of CACVS and the
consumers and funders of training, PBS were able to make a series
of recommendations that put the Unit into a much more strategic
position than it had previously occupied – and hopefully in
a much stronger position to make successful bids for future funding.
The recommendations included removing confusion about the branding
of the service and it has now taken the name of its membership group,
Cumbria Learning Links.

Kitty Booth-Clibburn, the unit manager felt the process
had been very helpful in a number of ways, not least the wide
variety of skills PBS brought to the task, which was both
politically and practically complex. “As a necessary
part of our evaluation process, Judith Brown facilitated a
consultative session with some of our members which brainstormed
aspirations for our future. We then discussed in small groups
the practical implications of trying to achieve these. The
process felt relaxed, participative and well-grounded in the
complex realities of our operating environment. Judith is
skilled at summarising and eliciting information while moving
the process on.”
When involved in interim evaluations, Porter Brown help organisations
in mid life to fully understand changing circumstances that
may affect future delivery, and to take hold of new opportunities
and priorities.
